What is paleo diet?

The paleo diet is a way of eating in which you focus on the foods that were available to humans during the Paleolithic Era. There are few rules, so this diet can be tailored to fit your individual lifestyle and needs. If you're watching your weight and want to eat more vegetables, use a low-carb paleo diet plan; if you're trying to lose weight and need to eat fewer carbs, choose a strict Paleo diet.

Many people who follow the Paleo diet enjoy feeling healthy, having more energy, and losing weight. Some people also say the Paleo diet helps them heal from autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto's thyroiditis or celiac disease. If you feel that it may be worth trying for yourself, give the Paleo diet at least 30-days before deciding whether or not it's for you.

Step 1

Foods to eat

The basis of the Paleo diet is that humans evolved on a paleolithic diet with meat as the main source of our protein, vegetables and fruits as our main sources of carbohydrates and fats coming from nuts and seeds. So when considering what foods should make up your paleo menu, think meat (poultry), fresh vegetables (all kinds of leafy greens) and fruit (berries).

You'll have to avoid all grains, dairy products (except for butter) and processed foods like bread, pasta and soda. You should also limit your intake of salt to 1 gram or less per day.

Step 2

Foods not to eat

The paleo diet is all about eating as much as possible from the Earth and getting rid of foods that are harmful to your health. One type of food that's on the list of things you shouldn't eat on this diet is sugar. Sugar has been linked to numerous health conditions, including diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.

Sugar also causes inflammation in the body. So if you're following a paleo diet, it's important to avoid processed foods with added sugar because they aren't good for your health.

Whole, organic foods are more likely to contain more nutrients. Because paleo dieters avoid processed foods, they're also less likely to be exposed to chemicals and GMOs, which many experts believe can cause weight gain.

Paleo dieters also typically eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and they're encouraged to eat meats that were hunted or raised on their own. In contrast, a standard American diet can be very high in sodium, refined sugars, and caffeine. However, not all experts agree that the paleo diet is healthy for everyone.

As long as these guidelines are followed, paleo is a great low-cost diet option compared to other more processed diets.

It can be. It's a diet that cuts out many processed foods, so you'll be eating a lot of fruits and vegetables as well as grass-fed and pasture-raised meats and eggs. These types of foods usually are quite expensive, but you can always cut expenses by making smart shopping choices.

We're big fans of the Paleo diet and we're sure you will be too. It's a high-protein, low-carb, non-toxic way to lose weight. The best thing about the Paleo diet is that it doesn't restrict your eating choices much but rather helps you focus on quality stuff.
